The method involves melting a thermoplastic side connection into the liner, thus avoiding any complicated mechanical joints or chemically bonded solutions. This will allow the structural rehabilitation, service laterals and side connections of water pipes to be made underground from within the existing pipe.
Aqualiner’s new technology, which is currently in the patenting process, is estimated to reduce the cost of the reinstatement of service laterals – a process which can often increase the cost of a project by 50 per cent if it requires excavation.
Aqualiner Limited is a company that specialises in trenchless pipelining technology for the water and sewerage industries and was the recipient of the ‘ISTT innovative technology award for pipe rehabilitation’ at the International No-Dig 2009 conference held in Toronto.
