The conference took place in the futuristic Science Park, in Hong Kong’s New Territories. Over 100 delegates attended from Hong Kong, mainland China and the rest of the world.
The keynote speakers were a particular highlight. Dr Dec Downey, Principal of Jason Consultants and Chair of the ISTT, provided a ‘state of the industry’ report, updating delegates on the latest technology, as well as providing the reassuring message that, everywhere he went in the world, support for trenchless was strong.
Dr Sam Ariaratnam of Arizona State University and Vice Chair of the ISTT outlined to delegates the environmentally sustainable credentials of Trenchless Technology, while Dr Lucio Soibemman of Carnegie-Mellon University spoke about Advanced Pipeline Systems Inspection and Monitoring Developments.
Other paper highlights included Wim Elzink of Wavin providing an excellent overview of the renovation of pressure pipelines, focusing on quality assurance with ISO standards, and other locally based companies providing case studies on successful projects. Don’t miss the January edition of Trenchless International, which will feature an overview of this paper.
Article continues below…A small but high-quality exhibition accompanied the conference, and Trenchless International magazine was in attendance, along with a range of local, American and European exhibitors.
The conference also saw Jon Boon of Insituform take over from Ian Vickridge of Black and Veatch as Chair of the CHKSTT. Jon paid credit to Ian’s successful term as chair and outlined his intentions for the future of the society. The society was also pleased to have Glenn Boyce of Jacobs Associates in attendance. Glenn was recognised for his efforts in founding the society ten years ago, and he acknowledged the help of many others in the formation of the society, such as Derek Choi.
Particular credit was also given to Dr Pinky Tso for her tireless work in bringing such a successful conference together.
It is expected that the next event for the CHKSTT will take place in approximately two years time, and is fully expected to build on the success of what has already gone.
