Tunnel boring, microtunnelling and HDD are all being considered for the construction of more than 20 kilometres of deep sewage tunnels under Hong Kong’s Victoria Harbour.
Proponent AECOM will build a sewage conveyance system of deep tunnels to transport the remaining raw sewage for enhanced treatment and disinfection at the Stonecutters Island treatment facility. Upon completion, more than 20 kilometres of deep sewage tunnels will cover areas at a maximum depth of 130 metres below sea level.

The works will be part of the Harbour Area Treatment Scheme (HATS) and has been implemented to improve the water quality of the increasingly polluted Victoria Harbour.
