The project commenced in early May, when contractors AM-Liner East Inc began inspecting the sewer lines to be rehabilitated.
The next phase involves relining approximately 2.8 km with polyester resin. This began in mid-May, and is expected be completed in late June.
These upgrades form part of the Department of Environmental Services Public Utilities Division Comprehensive Sanitary Sewer System Plan, developed in 2003, which outlines a phased program of sewer system evaluation and rehabilitation.
This rehabilitation is intended to extend the life of existing mains and, by reducing the inflow of stormwater and groundwater, is expected to reduce the treatment costs paid by the City.
