The Jamaican Government has allocated $US26.4 million for the rehabilitation and expansion of water and sewer systems in Port Antonio.
The development, known as the Port Antonio Water Sewerage and Drainage Project, will be executed by the National Water Commission (NWC), local news sources reported. Proposed upgrades include replacing 5 km of aging water mains between Port Antonio and Williamsfield, the construction of a 5 km trunk sewer, and the expansion and improvement of current water and sewer treatment plant facilities.

The preparation for digital maps and the design field assessments for the upgrades have already been completed, and it is intended that the entire project will be executed by December 2010.
