Pipe bursting will be used to replace the old pipes in downtown Cullman City. Utility Engineering Consultant Engineer Drew Nelson, said partial upgrades to the lines over the past 70 years have left the system inconsistent, which is why this new work is needed.

“We have some 12 inch lines running into eight inch lines, then back into 12 inch lines, which is not good,” he said.

“There have been some maintenance problems, and things like that, dealing with pipes that old, so this should fix that.” The work will be handled by Georgia-based contractor MidSouth Trenchless Inc., and is expected to begin within the next eight weeks.

The project is expected to take approximately four months to complete.
