Sewer Rehabilitation Phase D-2 is part of a program established by the City of San Diego mandating the rehabilitation of old and deteriorated sewer laterals, in order to upgrade their quality and extend their service life.

The cost of the project is estimated at $US1,689,593, which includes design, construction and inspection.

The project consists of rehabilitating approximately 590 existing 4 inch diameter service laterals (3.35 miles maximum) occurring in the city’s right of way and utilising Trenchless Technology. Construction consists of inserting a new liner pipe into existing laterals at the cleanouts and pushed towards the sewer main, where it will be cut and trimmed.

A new clean-out will be installed if there is none for a particular lateral. Some defective laterals are to be replaced and are proposed to be trenched no wider than three feet and no deeper than the existing pipes (maximum five feet deep).

All excavation is proposed solely within the existing lateral trenches and previously disturbed soil.

Construction is scheduled to commence at the end of September 2010 and will be completed by June 2011.
