Wessex Water is currently undergoing an extensive trenchless rehabilitation of water mains in Bridgewater, England.
The £10 million project, known as Operation Clean and Clear, will involve relining, replacing and cleaning around 27 km of water pipe. The pipes are currently in poor condition, which has occasionally led to people receiving discoloured water.
A number of innovative trenchless techniques will be used in the project to minimise disruption to motorists and residents. These include relining water mains using advanced technology and CCTV equipment, as well as cleaning the pipes with ice. The water mains will also be flushed to remove the build up of iron sediments that can cause discolouration.
Work on the project began in January and is expected to be completed in late 2011.
